![]() If this is just about trimming/cutting a part of the the video, you can avoid conversion, if you use either Xmedia Recode, Shutter Encoder or AVIdemux (or FFmpeg). BlackMagic's Davinci Resolve is the only professional NLE that also does that.Īs I still don't know exactly how and how much you want to edit in Vegas, my advice might miss the mark, but here goes. They are much better at handling all the modern open source media formats than most of the commercial programs. If you just need to trim / cut out parts of your source video, you can just use XMedia, Shutter Encoder or AVIdemux. Both are free and very reliable programs.įor embedded subtitles, Matroska (MKV) is the only suitable video container. You can do that with Shutter Encoder or Xmedia Recode. If you have sufficient disk space (or only need to edit a small part) a better option is to convert the AV1 video to a professional (lossless) editing format like ProRes or DNxHR. But you can of course convert the whole video to a lossy format that old Vegas can read. Roughly put, I'd say Vegas is unfit for this purpose. Subtitle Edit is a nice free program that can do this. If you need to edit the clip in Vegas, you will need a dedicated subtitle editing program to adjust the subtitle timecodes, so they still fit the edited video. Sony withdrew from the Vegas software project in 2015, I think. Also, the program is far too old to regognize the AV1 video type. The error message simply indicates that Sony Vegas doesn't recognize the subtitle format. Also be aware that you can only store one subtitle stream in an MP4 file. In fact, MP4 is a very bad container for embedded subtitles of any kind. I really don't need the audio to work either, I just need the footage to be able to edit it in Sony Vegas.Īgain, feel free to ask for any additional information regarding my file to better understand.ĪSS/SSA subtitles is an advanced subtitle format that the MP4 container doesn't support. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and again I apologize for my n00b understanding of this I'm just not really sure what to do here. The file has a bunch of chapters as well, as it was ripped off a Blu-ray disk I believe Idk if this information is relevant but - Stream 0 codec is av01, 1 is Opus, 2 is mp4a, 3 is mp4a, 4 and 5 are ssa. I've also tried ffmpeg -i movie.mkv -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s mov_text -map 0:v -map 0:a -map 0:s movie.mp4 which keeps the audio file, but not the actual video itself. I then tried -map 0:v -map 0:a to copy audio streams and ffmpeg -i input.mkv -filter_complex "subtitles=input.mkv:si=0" `-map ""` -map 0:a:0 -c:a copy output.mp4 to "burn in" subtitles. I used the command >ffmpeg -i "myfilename.mkv" -c copy -map 0 "myfilename.mp4" for the basic converting, which means the video is only able to open on VLC media. Please correct me if I'm wrong though, it could very well be something else. ![]() I've snooped around on this forum and found some information regarding removing or "converting" subtitles into an mp4, but it did not resolve my issue. The video I am converting has subtitles, which is why I'm pretty sure its not working. I'll try and provide all the information necessary but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!Ĭould not find tag for codec ass in stream #4, codec not currently supported in container Could not write header for output file #0 (incorrect codec parameters ?): Invalid argument Error initializing output stream 0:9 I was also not able to watch it on my windows media player due to a codec issue. I use Magix to edit, so when I thought I'd successfully converted the file, I went to load it up in Magix and it was not supported. They've never really given me an issue when I convert them with ffmpeg to mp4, however this time around I cannot for the life of me figure out how to convert the specific file I'll be talking about. I make video edits, and the videos I download are typically in the mkv format. So I apologize in advance if I use any wrong terminology or don't understand the complexities of some of the things I will be asking about. I've only dabbled with it here and there with the most basic of stuff, which is what has led me to writing here. I just want to preface this by saying I know close to nothing about ffmpeg and converting video formats. EDIT: Sorry, I originally said I used Sony Vegas however I actually use Magix, Im just so used to saying SV since Ive been using the software since 2012.
